Growing up as a kid with a long line of West Indian heritage, music has always been deeply rooted in Ladi Shai. As a child her parents performed together in a band, so it was inevitable that music would eventually play a big part in her life. At the age of 7, Ladi Shai joined a dance group in Coconut Grove, Fl doing contemporary dance. Singing and dancing along with the BMBC Angels became a big part of her life. Her skills as a female emcee became evident at the age of 14. Her brother-in-law and now manager overheard her rapping to a Ludacris song that was on the radio and had an idea to write out 16 bars for her to rap without him telling her how it went. To his surprise it was the start of a new beginning. From that point on he began to write for her until she realized that she could truly make a career out of it and started writing for herself.
Ladi Shai became serious about her craft right around the age of 16 when she did a show with her father. She received so many compliments that day and it made her think, “I have the talent and music is my passion so why not put more than my all into it? “ she said. Since then the pencil has not been lifted from the pad.
Ladi Shai’s inspiration comes from her mother. She adds, “What I’m doing now with my music is something that she has always wanted to do but due to circumstances beyond her control she was unable to fulfill her dreams. My mom is such a wonderful woman and I just want to be able to take care of her the way she has for me. ” In the midst of aiming to be one of the biggest stars to come out of Miami, Florida Ladi Shai Has started her own label “PhaceUp ENT” and also is working on the “SUPPORT THE ARTS” Foundation for kids who don’t have the privilege to experience like she did as a kid.
